Article: Health Care in Detroit

This is an article from Kaiser Health News, “a nonprofit news organization committed to in-depth coverage of health care policy and politics.”  The author, Jenny Gold, often covers disparities in health and worked at NPR and CBS Evening News in the past.  I chose this article because I’m interning at Community Health and Social Services, Inc. (CHASS), a federally qualified health center based in Southwest Detroit and Midtown.  CHASS is a leader in the initiative to offer affordable primary care to Detroit’s underinsured and uninsured in order to prevent costly trips to the emergency room.  The article helps provide some background on health disparities in Detroit’s minority populations, the plight of health centers, and how all of this will be affected by the Affordable Care Act.
