In the face of abandoned and vacant houses and neghborhoods in Detroit, the city is still trying to figure out what the best ways are to revitalize neighborhoods.  The city has been given financial aid that hasn’t really been used over the last 2 years, which is surprising considering Detroit definitely needs the money and action for neighborhoods.  However, the delay in spending seems to be a result of the city wanting to carefully plan the effective use of the money.  The article raises questions about what would help the city’s neighborhoods, demolition or redevelopment of what already exists?  What will increase the housing market in Detroit, considering that it has been declining long-term?

  1. Interesting article, Melania. I had never really heard of this grant…it’s unfortunate that the city can’t use it for other purposes, like solving the city’s debt. What do you guys think?
